KPV is a tripeptide fragment derived from alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, studied in laboratory and animal models for anti-inflammatory activity in the gut, acting through a transporter-mediated pathway that reduces inflammatory signaling independent of melanocortin receptors.
In mouse models of inflammatory bowel disease, KPV treatment produced earlier recovery, greater regain of body weight, and significantly reduced inflammatory infiltrates in colon tissue versus untreated controls. A separate colitis model found oral KPV reduced weight loss and lowered inflammatory markers in colon tissue. All of this evidence comes from rodent models; no human trial data were found.
