IGF-1 LR3 is a modified, longer-acting analog of insulin-like growth factor 1 engineered to bind insulin-like growth factor binding proteins far more weakly than native IGF-1, keeping more of it free to activate IGF-1 receptors over an extended period —a property that has made it a standard reagent in cell-culture research.
Published comparisons report IGF-1 LR3 is roughly 2-3 times more potent than native IGF-1 in serum-containing cell-culture media, acting through the same PI3K/Akt and MAPK signaling pathways that regulate cell proliferation and survival. Its research use is overwhelmingly as an in vitro cell-culture growth-factor reagent rather than a studied therapeutic agent; no human clinical trial data were found.
