Tesamorelin is a synthetic analog of GHRH that stimulates the pituitary to secrete growth hormone, raising IGF-1 in turn. It is an FDA-approved prescription drug under other brand names for a specific indication —a regulatory fact noted here for research-literature context, not a claim about this research-use material.
Across two pooled Phase 3 placebo-controlled trials in HIV-associated lipodystrophy (806 participants), tesamorelin reduced visceral adipose tissue by about 15.4% relative to placebo at 26 weeks. The same trials measured IGF-1 rising roughly 90% and triglycerides falling about 20%. A separate 12-month trial in adults with HIV and fatty liver disease found a greater reduction in liver fat with tesamorelin than placebo.
