FOXO4-DRI is a designed peptide built to block a protein-protein interaction inside senescent ("zombie") cells that normally helps those cells avoid self-destruction.
In the original 2017 study, naturally aged mice treated with FOXO4-DRI showed restored fur density, improved kidney function markers, and increased activity levels compared with untreated aged controls, with similar recovery reported in a chemotherapy-damage model. Follow-up rodent and cell-culture studies have extended similar senescent-cell-clearance findings to other tissue types, but all published data remains preclinical —no human clinical trial results have been published.
