GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) studied for its role in skin remodeling, wound healing, and antioxidant activity, largely through effects on gene expression tied to collagen and elastin production.
In a 3-month clinical study of 21 subjects, a GHK-Cu formulation produced an average 28% increase in subdermal echogenic density, a proxy for collagen and elastin content. A separate 1-month comparative trial found GHK-Cu increased collagen deposition in 70% of participants, versus 50% for vitamin C and 40% for retinoic acid. Results aren't universally positive: a randomized trial in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery found no significant difference in redness, wrinkles, or overall appearance when GHK-Cu was added to a post-laser-resurfacing regimen.
